Yoga Planting

Planting is my new yoga. I find it so tranquil and therapeutic. Helps to clear my mind and unwind.

Tonight I planted the rest of my succulents, in my living room, again. Still a poor choice, because I still have white carpet, but who cares? Apartment is probably not gonna give the deposit back anyhow.

I wasn’t so much as designing as I was just planting to have them spread/grow/get-them-out-of-tiny-little-plastic-pots into real pots. I have zero idea how fast/slow succulents grow, but I suppose i’ll find out pretty soon.

Also, planted these little guys: Just a random pot of succulent scraps, keep our fingers crossed.

I’m becoming addicted. Namaste.

Sunday’s Succulent Planting Party

After a delicious brunch up in the city (lemon custard french toast, yeah it was really great) it was succulent time.

There was a place that @julrae and I wanted to check out, Sloat Garden Center. Their plants were great, their succulents looked a little beat, perhaps it’s this Indian Summer that’s getting to them. I’ve read succulents don’t prefer radical changes, and let me tell you, it was freaking hot up there. This coming from a Texas gal whos used to 100+ for weeks.

While the selection wasn’t the best, we did pick up a few additional succulents and @julrae purchased a few pots. Then we got to planting.  Continue reading

Indoor Planting with Manhattan’s Elite

Errands took FOREVER today, I blame Fleet Week and Obama.  By the time I finally got home and made dinner it was dark out. So it made more since to plant indoors (misquote free) whilst watching Gossip Girl, because what goes better with succulents that the scandalous lives of Manhattan’s elite?

Shifting my hand through good clean dirt was amazingly fun. I don’t know the last time I really got my hands dirty. Tonights goal wasn’t to create any master pieces, but just to replant some of the bigger succulents I purchased yesterday.

As first I was careful and delicate with the roots, and then I got a little rough with them. I’ll have too keep you posted if it was traumatic to the succulents or not. Also, I did NOT water these guys. EVERYTHING I have read says to not over water. The soil seemed extra moist, the planters doesn’t have drainage hole, it seemed best to not water. The apartment looks like a greenhouse. Dirt got everywhere. I have off-white carpet, not one of my smarter moments.

Overly excited for tomorrow though. Can I make succulents look pretty? I don’t know, but I started this blog with the hope of being able to create something beautiful from them.

Succulent Shopping

After I got off work today…err I left work early today and went succulent shopping.

I’ve been scouring the internet all week trying to find the best places. I found an amazing wholesale places, but it’s 6 hrs away and only open M-F. I’ve been to some specialty places up in the city, but then seemed over priced. The two places on my list for this evening were Orchard Supply and Lowes.

Orchard Supply was a bust. Small selection, higher cost (than Lowes), and the succulents just didn’t as pretty as the ones at Lows.

HOWEVER, I did purchase perhaps my favorite one (string of pearls) there:

AND fell in love with this little beauty (which unfortunately was out of the budget, it was in a fancy (ugly) post that jacked up the cost).

Lowe’s was surprisingly great. Huge selection, good prices and succulent size range. They have tiny baby ones ($2 a pop) and more mature fuller sized ones ($10-12). So I bought some, a shovel, and dirt.

Now i’m blogging because I can”t do anything with them because I am going shopping for planters tomorrow and having my “planting party” Sunday.

Now I wait.
